The interior shots, meanwhile, were filmed on sets built at a nearby naval base. "I think it’s 2,000 square feet." (In 2014, a Seattle tech executive reportedly bought the Sleepless in Seattle houseboat for over $2 million.) ![]() "We looked at so many floating homes in Seattle and finally ended up in the biggest one there," Townsend says. The exterior shots of Sam’s home were filmed on location at an actual houseboat in the area. It’s literally on water and moves a little bit with the tide." Of course, the eccentric residence also lent the film a sense of whimsy, offering a cinematic spot for a number of shots of Sam gazing wistfully off his deck at the horizon. "I don’t think Jeff Arch would be horrified for me to suggest that there’s something transient-feeling about a floating home. (Townsend notes the houseboat was part of the original screenwriter Jeff Arch’s vision.) "The trajectory was that you have an ostensibly successful architect in Chicago-big market, big skyscrapers, big windows-whose dreams shrink from grief," Townsend says. While the number and size of Seattle’s houseboat colonies has since dwindled, real estate brokerage Prevu estimates that communities on Lake Union and other Seattle waterfronts still have around 500 floating homes and 250 houseboats, some with coveted real estate priced in the millions.įor Jeffrey Townsend, the film’s production designer, a Seattle floating home was the perfect visual representation of Sam’s unmoored state in the start of the film as a grief-stricken widow fleeing the bustle of Chicago. By the late 1930s, Seattle’s houseboat population was said to be around 2,000. ![]() In the 1920s, some of Seattle’s wealthy population built houseboats on Lake Washington as fancy summer homes. ![]() Tracing back to the late 1880s, sailors, fishermen, loggers, and dockworkers built low-cost floating shacks on the shores of the city’s various bays, lakes, and rivers using rafts and scrap boards. In real life, floating homes are deeply embedded in Seattle’s seaport history. Most of the film’s Seattle scenes take place at Sam and Jonah’s new place of living, a homey, wood-clad houseboat on Lake Union. When Annie hears Sam reluctantly discussing his grief on a radio show, she feels a profound connection and, against her better judgment, asks him to meet her on top of the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day. The story follows Annie (Ryan), a newly engaged reporter from Baltimore, and Sam (Hanks), a recently widowed architect who moves from Chicago to Seattle with his son Jonah (Ross Malinger) after his wife’s death.

And to this day, over 40 years later, the Nursery moms make an annual raffle quilt. By the time I gave up my place on that bench to the next generation of moms, I had the expertise and repertoire for a comprehensive book on group quilts ( Quilting Together, Crown Publishers 1988) and was stitching my way toward a new career. One good group quilt led to another and another. That’s where moms on hiatus from previous lives (I was an Occupational Therapist) hang out and share ideas-like organizing total non-sewists and quilt novices into making a raffle quilt for the local cooperative nursery school, the same one I’d gone to as a toddler. Enchanted also received two nominations at the 65th Golden Globe Awards and three Best Original Song nominations at the 80th Academy Awards. It won three Saturn Awards, Best Fantasy Film, Best Actress for Adams and Best Music for Menken. It was critically well-received, established Adams as a leading lady, and earned more than $340 million worldwide at the box office. The animated sequences were produced at James Baxter Animation in Pasadena, while filming of the live-action segments took place around New York City.Įnchanted premiered at the London Film Festival on October 20, 2007, and went into its wide release in the United States on November 21. Composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, who had written songs for previous Disney films, wrote and produced the songs of Enchanted, and Menken also composed the film's score. It also marks the return of traditional animation to a Disney feature film after the company's decision to move entirely to computer animation in 2004. The film is both a homage to and a self-parody of Disney's animated features, making numerous references to past works through the combination of live-action filmmaking, traditional animation, and computer-generated imagery. ![]() It focuses on an archetypal Disney princess-to-be exiled from her animated world into the live-action world of New York City. That I think is a lesson we've learned this far into the Netflix era of the movie business.Enchanted is a 2007 American live-action/animated musical fantasy romantic comedy film directed by Kevin Lima and written by Bill Kelly. Streaming should not come at the sacrifice of potential ticket sales. To me, looking back at the success of "Enchanted," it just seems downright disappointing and sad that the sequel is relegated to what equates to a glorified direct-to-video release. I'm no Hollywood figurehead but, if it were me, I'd see little harm in giving these big sequels a shot in theaters, seeing what they can do at the box office, then letting people find them on streaming if they want. And yet, it was only used to try and attract subscribers. This similarly happened with " Hocus Pocus 2" recently, a movie that seems like it probably could have done damn decent business at the box office. What's perhaps more surprising is that, even with the central cast returning, it was relegated to Disney+ to bolster the streaming business. It's surprising that it took 15 years to get a sequel to this movie. While I'm not going to get into the perceived quality of "Disenchanted" ( read our review here), I will say that the streaming era seems to be having Disney wanting it both ways. He instead made 2002's Best Picture winner "Chicago." Amazingly enough, that would have been Marshall's feature directorial debut. Rob Marshall was actually on board to direct back when the film was going to be released in 2002, but he backed out over creative differences. ![]() That original draft had Giselle apparently being mistaken for a stripper upon her arrival in New York City. What Lima describes is genuinely hard to imagine given the movie we ultimately ended up with. Billy Kelly's script was originally picked up by Disney in 1999, though the director revealed in 2007, oddly enough, that it was originally a "racier R-rated movie." He added, "It took the studio time to rediscover the heart of the story." Lima was the one who all but forced them to rediscover it. Ultimately, it was Kevin Lima, the director of "Tarzan" and "102 Dalmatians," that made the movie what it is, but it passed through the hands of a great many filmmakers on its way to Lima's hands. Both headlight types are similar in the sense that the bulbs shine in a chrome-painted reflector bowl and spread light on the road. The slick and smaller housing of these lights looks good on expensive luxury cars. Projector headlights are a newer invention that uses advanced and modern technology. Because of diffusing the illumination at a large angle, reflector headlights light up a wider area on the road. The housing is known as the reflector bowl that reflects light toward the front of the vehicle. The headlight bulbs in the reflector style sit on a bowl-like housing that is tinted with chrome paint. On the other hand, the projector headlight housing takes larger space and costs more than its counterparts. However, you will find this type in many modern vehicles because of low manufacturing costs and small size. So, it’s obvious that they use old technology. Reflector headlights have there been for decades. (Credit: Bicanski / Pixnio) The HousingĪnother difference between projector vs reflector headlights lies in their housing design. If you still can’t identify the type, check the owner’s manual or call the dealership. These mirrors reflect the illumination from the bulbs. They have mirrors instead of lenses, which don’t hide the reflector bowl. On the other hand, reflector headlights have a clearly different “open” design. Their fishbowl lens, which conceals the reflector bowl, facing the headlight bulb is quite prominent from the outside. Projector headlights have a modern design with a clean, minimal interface. An aperture of f/1.4 is a very attractive spec for amateur astrophotographers who capture images and videos at night. The 24mm lens is the second widest prime lens in the Sigma Art series, ideal for low-light photography. The lens I use includes the Canon EF-mount, which I can also use on my RF-mount Canon EOS Ra using a Canon EF – EOS R adapter. The Sigma 24mm f/1.4 Art lens is a professional-grade wide-angle lens part of the overall Art-series by Sigma, which are great budget-friendly alternative to similar, and more expensive Canon, Nikon, and Sony lens options. In this article, I will share my results using the Sigma 24mm F/1.4 Art lens for astrophotography. The lack of image stabilization will likely be a deciding factor for those looking to use this lens for video work, but I have found it to be very useful when filming in low-light situations despite this feature. The lens isn’t perfect, but it is an exceptional value and has impressive qualities that amateur astrophotographers can appreciate. The reviews on B&H Photo indicate that Nikon and Sony camera owners have had a positive experience with this lens as well. The stars are not bloated, and they are exceptionally well color-corrected. The modestly edited stack of images below shows the incredible performance of this lens from an optical standpoint. ![]() The Sigma 24mm F/1.4 is perhaps the most impressive lens for astrophotography overall, rarely due to its incredibly fast aperture. Over the years I have used a number of great camera lenses for astrophotography from the Rokinon 135mm F/2 to the Canon EF 300mm F/4L. There is just something about that 24mm focal length that captures the night sky at just the right field of view. While there are a few lenses in their art-series line-up that are well-suited for low-light photography, I consider the 24mm version to be the ultimate choice for astrophotography. With an f-ratio of F/1.4, this Sigma art series lens can pull in a lot of light under a dark night sky. ![]() The Sigma 24mm F/1.4 lens is an interesting choice for astrophotography, particularly wide-angle Milky Way photography. ![]() Agent Insights Ep 33: Infiltration (and why there'.Agent Insights Ep 34: What counts as a scam?.If you get caught by the scammers, they may target you for harassment/scamming/hacking.This item is divided in half with two shades of brown and numerous cracks.
